INFANCY
I stepped in reluctantly.
I took baby steps - one song at a time.
I had arrived with tons of baggage.
My baggage weighed me down, where it didn't enlighten.
But the notes were pure,
and purity always gets my attention,
and I paid attention even to the sound of the words,
and the words pulled me in,
slowly,
reluctantly,
one step at a time.
I progressed like an infant.
I practiced solidity - balance and focus.
I recognized the pattern, plumbed the depths.
I looked for a hand to hold and someone snatched it away.
But the story was true,
and truth is my lodestone,
and I followed the signs until they became an enchiridion,
and the songs became a hymn,
expanding,
urgent,
one note at a time.
I place my feet on the floor,
I place my head at your feet.
